Yoga originated in ancient India. It is a combination of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines. Yoga means different varieties of postures or asanas. Swami Vivekananda in the late 19th and early 20th century adapted the yoga tradition, excluding asanas. It was yoga gurus who introduced yoga to western countries. Yoga has the power to cure many kinds of diseases like asthma, joint pains, headache, blood pressure, diabetes, etc. It is a stress relief and relaxation technique. It also helps in balancing the posture. In India, there are a broad variety of schools of yoga. In western countries, the term "yoga" is frequently used to refer to a modern form of hatha yoga as well as yoga as exercise, which consists mostly of postures or asanas. Yoga is mentioned in the Rigveda and also referenced in the Upanishad.

Eligibility Criteria for Yoga Courses:

Candidates willing to do Bachelor of Arts in Yoga or Bachelor of Science in Yoga must have cleared 10+2 and must have secured a minimum of 50% aggregate score.

Whereas for Masters of Arts in Yoga or Masters of Science in Yoga, candidates must have pursued a course in BA/ BSc in Yoga.

Types of Yoga Courses:

Bachelor of Science in Yoga is a 3 years course. It offers a mixture of yoga and management skills. It is a collection of physical, spiritual, and mental practices that originated in ancient India. In Sanskrit, it means to join. Yoga has gained immense popularity across the world. It helps reduce stress, enhances flexibility, and improves body posture and many health diseases In B.Sc. Yoga training focuses more on practical sessions. The career scope after the completion of this course includes a Yoga instructor or therapist.

PG Diploma Course in Yoga is of 1 to 2 years. This course is for those who want to work in the professional field. Candidates should have a minimum aggregate score of 50%-60% in graduation from a recognized Board with relevant subjects. There is no entrance exam for admission but there may be a personal interview or group discussion for final selection. Candidates having a background in Yoga and Naturopathy or other related subjects are generally preferred in this course.

Certification Courses are also available for this course which are of 200 hours in which one is taught about different fundamental concepts of mainstream Yoga and its philosophical foundations. Different institutes offer this course in different intervals. It gets completed in one month or one year depending on the regular time interval sessions they provide. This course can be done after 10+2. 

Job Opportunities after Pursuing Yoga:

Yoga Instructor: A yoga instructor instructs students in a variety of yoga poses, both easy and advanced. Along with yoga, the instructor concentrates on teaching the trainees proper breathing habits and techniques. A Yoga teacher must be able to modify poses for those with arthritis, pregnant women, and others. As a Yoga instructor, you can focus on teaching a certain group of people, such as pregnant women, arthritis patients, youngsters, the elderly, mothers and children, and so on.

Yoga Therapist: A Yoga therapist works with people who are suffering from physical ailments such as back pain, diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, and so on. A Yoga instructor must be able to deal with and teach Yoga to people who have emotional disorders such as depression, stress, anxiety, and so on, in addition to working with persons who have physical ailments.

Yoga Specialist: A yoga specialist is an expert in a specific type of yoga. These instructors complete their education in the field in which they choose to specialize. Some trainers prefer to work with pregnant women, some with senior citizens, yet others with youngsters, while still others teach yoga as a therapeutic treatment.

Research Officer: Yoga and Naturopathy: Yoga has several advantages, and numerous academics and scientists are still investigating its impacts. A yoga researcher studies the benefits of yoga in the treatment of ailments such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis, HIV, cancer, stress disorders, and depression, among others.
