One of the prospects after completing an MBBS program from any of the medical colleges in India, graduates have chosen to pursue an MD or Doctor of Medicine course as their further degree. MD, as the name suggests is a postgraduate course, which, as per the Medical Council of India, is conducted for 3 years across different specializations.

MD, or Doctor of Medicine, like various postgraduate courses, is a degree rather than a course that can be pursued. All aspirants who wish to pursue a postgraduate program will be able to pursue an MD degree in one of the many specializations offered in the MD colleges of India.

Advantages of MD:

Just like most postgraduate degrees, this degree comes with a set of benefits. This program allows candidates to choose a specialization that helps them in acquiring a better quality of education. This in turn helps them to create their individuality and separates them from the crowd. When an individual achieves a Doctor of Medicine degree, he or she has a significantly greater range of options. The candidate will be offered higher career possibilities and salary packages if they pursue this degree. To add to that, there are some nations, where there is a scarcity of specialized experts in the field of medical sciences and healthcare. As a result, getting a Doctor of Medicine degree also opens up the possibility of working abroad.

Eligibility Criteria to get admission in MD:

To be able to pursue an MD with any of the specializations, candidates are required to have a legitimate MBBS degree from any recognized medical institution in either India or Abroad. They are also expected to sit for the NEET entrance examination. Since MD is a postgraduate degree, candidates must have a NEET-PG score/rank to be eligible to get admission. Some prestigious medical schools, such as AIIMS, JIPMER, and the Medical Colleges of Delhi University, hold their entrance exams. The minimum aggregate score requirement in the qualifying examination varies from college to college.

Entrance Exams:

There are a few entrance exams mentioned below on the grounds of which admission to MD is granted through various medical colleges. Please note that the procedure for admission to all these entrance examinations is distinct.

Job Scope:

Graduates of an MD program can not only call themselves MBBS/MDs, but they can also pursue some exciting employment opportunities. The following are some of the major career options available to an MD graduate after graduation.

Government jobs aren't easy to get, but they're also not impossible to achieve. Candidates can apply for MD employment in the government sector after completing the course. These government positions will offer a good income and come with a slew of additional perks. Candidates will be glad to learn that UPSC holds several doctor recruitment exams where MD-qualified doctors can try their luck.

Set up a clinic: MD graduates have the option of starting their clinic. After establishing a clinic, candidates can create regulations that fit their leisure. The beginning may not be ideal, but if you persevere, your future will certainly be secure.

Private job: Due to the growing need and scarcity of medical practitioners, there are a big number of MD jobs in the private sector that are continually looking for MD specialist doctors.

Non-Governmental Organization (NGO): If you want to help the poor and needy, NGOs are the greatest place to start. You should also keep in mind that not all employees in NGOs are unpaid; in fact, some of them can be rather lucrative.

Further studies- If you decide to continue your studies and add additional feathers to your cap, that is fantastic. Candidates should keep in mind, however, that their super-specialty option will be determined by the MD specialty they chose.
