Working and parenting at the same time is a difficult undertaking since you are expected to give your all in both roles, and they both desire your time in the same capacity. It can be quite stressful and tough to deal with at times. Throughout your journey, you will have to continue to fight a battle between your personal and professional lives.

Following are a few pointers that can help you live a more enjoyable personal and professional life:

Communicate with your manager or senior

Work with your manager to define and reset expectations for your goals and commitments during your work from the home term. Many companies are sympathetic to the difficulties you're facing and may be willing to work with you to alter your schedule or goals as a result.

If you don't already have one, request a weekly or biweekly check-in through video chat or phone call with your boss and stakeholders. Maintaining regular communication ensures that your team and/or seniors are aware of your progress, modifications you require, and any assistance you may require.

Build a schedule

Whenever required, block some time off for caregiving activities, but also recognize that not all things planned out will work because of the unpredictable nature of kids. It is very parental of you to want to set aside moments during the day for your kid(s). Look for opportunities to divide time with another caregiver if it's possible, and plan your schedule around it.

Let your seniors and/or team know the timings of the day you won’t be available. But also try to optimize whenever possible for team syncs and essential interactions. This can assist you and your children in developing a basic (and flexible) plan, possibly one that resembles a typical school day to preserve consistency.

Have proper coordination with your partner

Deadlines, long meetings, and office work are bound to make you exceedingly busy.

To keep your work from being hampered, try to work out a plan with your partner so that he/she/they can care for the kids if they need anything. When you have young children who require more of your attention—to fix their toy, clean a runny nose, or put them to sleep—the situation gets much more difficult!

Sharing childcare responsibilities with your partner can help you stay balanced and productive throughout the day.

Maintain work-life balance

Working from home does not imply that you are always available for office work. It is critical to strike a work-life balance and communicate openly with your boss. To sustain work productivity, work for set hours and never offer to work beyond those hours. Ensure that you sign out at a decent hour and spend the remainder of your time with your family.

Carve Out a Designated Workspace

When working from home, having a specific location for office work is usually beneficial. It not only allows you to focus more on your work, but it also lets your children know that you are at the office. Make it plain to your children that when you're at your desk, you're busy, and it's time for them to do something else. Having a separate workstation also helps in keeping your children away from your laptop, office files, and other critical materials.

Working remotely has evolved from a fad to a full-fledged cultural revolution. Working from home with children is a difficult task. Parents may set clear work and family boundaries that assist in creating a productive environment with the appropriate mindset and a few tools.
